How many girls around the world have suspected their others of cheating, and acted on said suspicions
by following them throughout the day? That's just what Jessica Wild does in Gemma Townley’s latest, A Wild Affair.
If you remember Jessica from Townley’s last paperback, The Importance of Getting Married,
she was in a bit of a pickle when she told a fabricated story to a nice old lady. It turned out Jessica had to make that story come true, but the man in that made-up yarn was actually the best friend of the man she really fell in love with, Max Wainwright. Sounds confusing, but it’s really not.
A Wild Affair is the story of Jessica and Max’s trip down the aisle and everything leading up to it. It’s the
"everything" that makes the story: Jessica suspects the totally besotted Max of seeing another woman behind her back just days before the wedding.
Instead of asking him about it, she follows him to an apartment in London in which a young-looking woman lives.
Now Jessica is thoroughly convinced of her suspicions. Without a moment to lose, Jessica travels back to their shared apartment and promptly fills up her suitcase, leaves her key on the nightstand as a clear signal that she has left, and moves back in with her best friend, Helen,
with whom she lived before moving in with Max.
Who is this other woman? Jessica’s crew - Ivana, the Russian escort; her boyfriend; and best friend Helen -
set out to find out. Hilarious hi-jinks ensue when her friends try to help her out.
This other woman? She's none other than her long-dead mother. Jessica has
always been told that her mother died in a car accident when she was only a child and placed to live with her strict grandmother. Now,
not only does Jessica have to reconcile with her mother; she has to try to put out of her mind that she
got smashed the night she followed Max and ran into Max’s rival, Hugh Barter - who is trying to get a hold of Max’s client’s - and promptly told
him all Max's business secrets. Now her spillage has cost Max a lucrative account and driven the two apart. The wedding is off, and Jessica is a wreck trying to salvage what is left of her relationship,
as well as trying to deal with her money-hungry mother.
Will everything turn out in the end? Will Jessica find common ground with her mother? A Wild Affair is a funny, touching look inside
the bond between two people who absolutely adore each other.
