Author Heather Lowell combines mystery, romance and suspense in her novel When The Storm Breaks. Claire Lambert is a slender, raven-haired beauty who stumbles upon a murder one evening after leaving the Camelot dating service. Camelot is run by her friend, Afton, and Claire signed up for the service in hopes of meeting a man to fill the lonely void in her life. Claire filled out a dating profile and spent hours reviewing the “catalogue” of men registered with Camelot.

After reviewing the catalogue, Claire leaves the building to return home for a typical evening alone when her life is changed forever. On the way home, she witnesses a woman being brutally murdered at a schoolyard. Finding a new love seems petty after Claire witnesses the murder. She flees the murder scene and ends up striking her head on the stairwell of a club as the killer pursues her. The killer is enraged that Claire has altered his original plan by stumbling upon him and his victim during the murder. She escapes, but she is injured.

Next, Claire wakes up in the hospital with a fierce head pain, contusions and scratches with a tall, dark and handsome man, Detective Sean Richter, by her bedside. The trauma from the incident has wiped away Claire’s memory from that evening. Despite questioning from the police and gentle encouragement, all Claire can remember are the killer’s silvery blue eyes and a sadistic, twisted smile. However, Detective Richter is motivated to continue his communications with Claire since she is his link to solving the murder. Claire is certain that she will recognize the killer if she sees him again.

As the police work with Claire and she becomes involved in the unsolved murder, she begins to form an emotional bond with Detective Sean Richter, who is single and undeniably sexy. Not only does Sean take a liking to Claire, he feels the need to protect her. That need quickly becomes a necessity because the killer is stalking Claire from a distance. The killer has made it clear that Claire is his next “prey". Can Sean find the killer before he strikes again – with Claire as the victim? Claire is the only person who has seen the killer’s face and lived. Sean desperately needs her help and will put his own life on the line, if necessary, to protect her.

When The Storm Breaks is fast-paced and suspenseful. The characters are very real and as the heat between Claire and Sean begins to simmer, the murder plot thickens and suspense continues to develop and change throughout the novel. Interesting and riveting plot twists will entertain and enthrall the reader to the very end. Fans of romance, suspense and murder mysteries will enjoy When The Storm Breaks.
