This is Moskowitz’s (Isa Does It: Amazingly Easy, Wildly Delicious Vegan Recipes for Every Day of the Week) 10th-anniversary edition of Vegan with a Vengeance. It contains a new cover and foreword,
25 new recipes (Black Bean & Quinoa Soup, Italian Tofu, and Cosmos Apple Pie,
among others) and colored photographs.
This is a beautiful cookbook. The recipe titles look like they appear on brick walls, and they come with short, interesting introductions. Many recipes have full-page pictures of the recipes and food tips entitled
"Fizzle Says" (Fizzle is the author’s cat). There is some humor in the writing ("Serves 4, or 2 if you’re very hungry"). In the ingredient list, the measurements appear only in Imperial measurements (i.e. cups, tablespoons,
etc), but there is a metric conversion chart in the back of the book. Some little details I liked were
that the index in the back of the book has three-color photographs of the recipes.
The introduction is nine pages long, but it is broken down into Tools and Kitchen Stuff (eighteen items), Post Punk Pantry (vegan must-haves), and Veganize it, which includes tips for doing away with eggs and dairy. The recipes are divided into nine chapters; Brunch, Muffins and Scones, Soups, Little Meals, Finger Foods and Sammiches, Sides, Pizza and Pastas, Entrees, Cookies and Bars, and Desserts. The ingredients for each recipe are neither extensive in number
nor hard to find. There is one recipe per page.
I think this book will do well in our library because the recipes look appetizing and the cover is eye-catching: Isa is holding a well-used frying pan, wearing all black
with her arm tattoos visible.
