“Sex in your sixties and seventies.” Is that a shocking sentence? How about “lots of sex in your sixties and seventies”? According to author and life explorer Jane Juska, not only are men in their latter years getting some, women are, too. Women like her.
Juska’s adventure into late-life libido began when she placed a personal ad stating “Before I turn 67, I would like to have a lot of sex with a man I like.” That ad led to a series of lusty tales that ended up in the author’s first book, A Round-Heeled Woman, which garnered her tons of fans, great reviews, and a reputation as being a sex expert. In this new book, Unaccompanied Women, she continues pursuing lust, and love, with the opposite sex, all the while documenting the emotions and feelings that come with putting yourself out there, especially in a world that worships youth.
Some of her stories are bittersweet, such as her ongoing love of a younger man named Graham, and others are witty. Some of the time she goes without a man at all, and other times she has more than enough to keep her busy. But all of the time, we get the benefit of her humor, her insight, and even her heartfelt pain and suffering as she treads the waters of later-life loving…and living.
Juska reminds us that the desires of the body and the heart do not diminish with time; they just adapt and change a bit. She also reminds us that love, at any age, comes with a price, and that the pursuit of love is not in any way just for the youthful. As the author tells those older souls in search of new love and connection, “You can always go online!”
