Tamara has always been a big player in the McCloud brothers’ dangerous lives, but everything about her oozed mystery and deadly menace. Now her past is laid bare as she is forced into a partnership layered with personal agendas, manipulative external influences, and sexual intrigue heightening the romantic attachment from lust to love.

Val Janos is the covert operative sent to bring Tamara in. Dark, mysterious, and a deadly weapon, he 's the ideal pick to lure the seductress from her lair. But when the threats to his father-figure’s life begin, Val’s objectives start to change of their own accord. How much will he sacrifice for Tamara and her small daughter? How much will he sacrifice for Imle, his surrogate father? Will he give his life to save these few souls caught in an inescapable web of the cruel, selfish mafia leader?

On the run all over Europe, with various objectives and little time in which to accomplish them, both Tamara and Val must focus on weaving their own web of deception to draw in the deadly foes who want them dead or alive. Unfortunately, quick skills and deadly tricks of an assassin’s trade will do nothing to save Tamara when she learns that her two-year-old daughter is being tortured in captivity by none other than Daddy Novak himself. Tamara is the real prize he wants, but inflicting pain through the torture of one’s nearest and dearest is sometimes even more effective, particularly when it's an innocent child. Now it's up to Val to try to get to both Tamara and the child before any real torture commences and their lives are lost, even if it means his is forfeit in the process.

McKenna brings together a tremendous amount of loose ends and answers a lot of mysterious questions about Tamara in Ultimate Weapon. Definitely up to her usual captivating storytelling finesse, McKenna delivers another solid addition to the McCloud Brothers series and again leaves readers thirsty for more. Unlike the previous novels in the series, Ultimate Weapon is much more action and story than romantic intrigue. While McKenna knows her fan base and doesn't leave us wanting, Tamara is a hard character to get warmed up to anybody, and the mysterious past proves far more dangerous and action-packed than anything the McCloud brothers have encountered thus far. This is a great read and a real nail-biter through and through.
