Something Wicked is a thrilling new mystery in the Colony series written by the sister team of Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush. Readers will be on the edge of their seats as Detective Savannah Dunbar slowly uncovers a web of sexual promiscuity, mystical powers and serial murder in Deception Bay.

Sarah Dunbar is eight months pregnant when she is summoned to speak to Catherine Rutledge, matriarch of the Colony at Siren Song. After discovering the decaying body of her reclusive sister, Mary Rutledge Beeman, Catherine is determined to find out who killed her. She hopes that Savannah can help her keep the murder a secret. Was Mary a real “siren,” or were the stories about her just gossip? Is the killer a member of the mysterious cult-like family—or is it someone who has a grudge against them?

Meanwhile, Savannah has her own problems. She is a surrogate for her sister, Kristina, and Kristina’s husband, Hale. The couple has been trying to conceive a child for years, and as a result, their marriage is struggling. Kristina hopes that the child will turn their marriage around. Before her maternity leave, Savannah is finishing up the investigation of the double homicide of the Donnatellas. It appears that they were brutally killed by someone who wanted revenge for a real estate deal gone wrong.

When the clues in the two murder investigations seem to point to one suspect, Savannah is even more determined to solve them. Will she be able to do it before she has the baby? Is she getting too close to the truth? Will the murderer come for her—and the baby?

As the title of this action-packed novel suggests, Detective Savannah Dunbar’s quest to solve the mystery of the Deception Bay murders is a search for “something wicked.” Her investigation into the murders of the Donnatellas leads her to her brother-in-law’s real estate company, Bancroft Development. As the investigation deepens, there are shocking revelations about a disastrous real estate development, secret sexual liaisons past and present, and complex family relationships.

Savannah lives in a complicated world. Her surrogate pregnancy is almost at an end; however, she is not looking forward to having the baby: “The reasons for agreeing to become her sister’s surrogate were actually getting a little harder to remember.” (p. 12) Kristina and Hale do not seem very enthusiastic about the new baby, either. When Savannah uncovers Kristina’s affair, she is shocked and surprised. Savannah is also drawn into the lives and secrets of the Colony. Her investigation of the murder of Mary Beeman leads her to surprising revelations about the mystical powers and sexual prowess of the all-female family living at Siren Song. Is there a serial killer among them?

Lisa Jackson is the bestselling author of more than 75 novels. She began writing at the urging of her sister, novelist Nancy Bush. Initially they wrote together, but soon moved in different directions. Lisa concentrated on mystery, romance and medieval novels. Nancy wrote several bestselling novels, but also wrote for one of television’s leading soap operas, All My Children. In February 2009, they co-wrote Wicked Game beginning their very successful “Wicked” series exploring the mysteries of the Colony. It was followed in 2011 with Wicked Lies. In Something Wicked, readers will be thrilled to journey back to Siren Song where, “The world was full of the unexplained.” (p. 51)
