When you think of the legendary Rickenbacker bass, you immediately think of Chris Squire and Paul McCartney shouldering these beautiful instruments. But the history of the instrument predates their usage by decades.
In this beautifully crafted text and photo book, author Paul D. Boyer describes the Rick's beginning's in the mid-1950s and details the changes and improvements it underwent
over the following 50 years.
In his own words, the author describes his research: "I took a 'field guide'
approach to the content, not just providing the history and photos. Each model is illustrated with an 'identifying features' page that uses close-up photos and callouts to point out 'field marks' of that particular Rickenbacker bass mode.'
Indeed, the 144 pages here are festooned with stylish and iconic photos.
There are images here of the types of instruments played by Squire and McCartney as well as guitars used by rock players from Deep Purple and Motorhead. There are some remarkable archival shots here accompanied by an abundance of insightful and thoughtful text.
