The Sting (Class A psychic powers that could make a person leader of a global network of planets) is what makes Ronica McBride special. Along with her comes a secure life and protected upbringing -- that is, until everything is taken from her and the planetary network known as The Com dumps her on a primitive planet. Sheltered and shielded for her entire life, Ronica McBride must now learn how to survive on a world completely alien from her own. That’s not an easy feat when your main weapon of defense is gone, everything that you’ve been taught is a lie and the ones who lied to and abandoned you are still hunting you.
Commencement is a hard book to read, not because of the subject matter or any high brow word phrases, rather because the type font is very small. If I didn’t HAVE to read this book as a review I would have given up because no book is good enough to lose your eye sight over. Get past that little drawback and get into the book, and you can’t help but to be drawn into it. Ronica’s quest for knowledge and survival are well-written and as Ronica’s grows and learns, you do too. The story line is somewhat predictable, but it is an excellent start to what should be a good trilogy.
