Billionaire George Soros has offered up a big serving of whoop-ass against the foreign policy blunders of the Bush Administration in The Bubble of American Supremacy: Correcting the Misuse of American Power. Soros, the famed financier and philanthropist who has donated over $500 million via his powerful and positive foundations to promoting open societies, has constructed a powerful analysis of a political system of the verge of collapse, and the disastrous effects that collapse will have on the rest of the world. Using symbolism and analogy from the world of stock market high finance, Soros explains how the current presidential policies have created a bubble of unreality that is about to catch up to the truth, and the resulting “bubble burst” will be quite impactful.

The book is divided into two sections. First up, Soros takes on the lies, deceptions and insanities of an adminstration that serves to divide and conquer rather than build and cooperate. Soros argues that with neo-conservatives controlling the White House, we have nothing but unilateralism, militarism, war and economic downfall facing us, and that our place in the world as the respected leaders of open society is in peril. He documents the disastrous effects the Iraq invasion and war on terrorism have had in not only harming our own economy, but in turning nation upon nation against us, and how we the people have been strung along for the ride. But the tide is turning.

The second half of the book is a positive challenge to either Bush or the next president, a challenge filled with Soros’ own strongly thought-out ideas on improving foreign policy and regaining the respect of the world America once easily enjoyed. Soros also emphasizes the need for globalization to recognize the common good, and offers plenty of workable ideas for changing the negative route we seem so hell-bent to take when it comes to truly understanding the roots of terrorism and how best to fight it.

George Soros is a brilliant and caring man, and I wish he would run for president. Instead, he is making a difference in the world with his bestselling books, including George Soros on Globalization and Open Society, and of course with his efforts to build open societies all around the world. He truly puts his money where his mouth and heart are, and The Bubble of American Supremacy is a critical book that every American citizen should be required to read, and think about.

Soros is out to make the world a better place. If only our government leaders would think to do the same.
