"The Sentinel Wars" series well on its way with last spring's Burning Alive and November's Finding the Lost. The third book in the series—Running Scared—is slated for release in May of 2010. Fans definitely won’t have to wait long to get their reading appetites satiated!

Fear of fire is only half of Helen’s emotional menace - the other half is staring at her from across the diner, his body rock-solid, his face handsome, but the smirk just barely visible on his lips is terrifying. She has seen her fate in nightly dreams, over and over: he smirks and watches as she burns to death in pure agony. Helen wants only to hide away from this man and the impending death he brings.

The Theronai warrior Drake feels immediately drawn to Helen in a way he's never before experienced. His blood oozes power and gains strength just by their connection. With many lives in danger and a mystery revolving around their mutual attraction and need, Helen’s only option is to put her trust in the one man she should fear the most. Helen and Drake stand on a precipice where their success or failure will determine a great many things for Drake’s people.

Butcher brings this book alive with creative and original plot, throwing in a unique character base and multi-dimensional races. Overall, the concepts within this novel and the subsequent books in the series are far more relevant in the sci-fi genre vs. the paranormal romance genre. Regardless, Burning Alive entertains, although it is perhaps more farfetched than the typical paranormal genre books, and in it ambiguity reigns through to the end.
