Avoiding Cancer One Day At A Time is written by Lynne Eldridge and David Borgeson; these two have a closer relationship than most co-writing authors - they are siblings.
Their manual opens with acknowledgements and introduction sections, followed by 11 chapters. Chapter two offers an IQ pretest which readers will find both interesting and challenging. The benefit of taking this test is to evaluate your personal knowledge and actions you are already taking. I scored very high on this evaluation quiz; however, there
are several new ideas and concepts that I had not known of before featured in this book. For instance, I was not aware that certain infections or illnesses might cause cancer. I am also very keen on following up on
radon detection kits.
I was glad to see information on waste management, such as the recycling of
old cell phones and CFLs, and the proper handling of paints, solvents and more. The authors also recommended Melaleuca, which was interesting to me as I
have been a “preferred customer” of theirs for about 14 years now.
There are ample tips on managing weight and inspirational information on a proper diet. The authors also include over 30 recipes for those looking to lead a healthier life,
as well as offering inspirational family activity options, tips for reducing stress, anger, and depression, and much more.
Three appendices are listed in this book: Appendix A offers worksheets for applying cancer prevention principles; Appendix B lists known cancer-causing substances; and Appendix C lists
carcinogens according to proposition. The book closes with a thorough list of references. Readers will appreciate the index for this extensive and well-documented book.
The best features of this book are the in-depth research and the comprehensive and well-organized content. Numerous quotes can be found throughout. Tables and point-form bullets are used to summarize or simplify information in an easy-to-read format. The resources offered in Avoiding Cancer One Day At A Time are fabulous – I followed up on a few of them
and found them very informative.
