With the success of shows like The X Factor and Rock Star, the idea of the audition has become a worldwide phenomenon. Picking the right song, appropriate dress, and interacting with the people doing the hiring are all essential elements in the process.
In
this book, the author--actor and teacher of a master class called "Rock the
Audition"--breaks down this rather daunting process. She talks about
- The relationship between accompanist and artist
- Controlling your voice and controlling the room
- Physical movements/dress
The book is accompanied by a DVD that contains techniques on singing in a rock
style. At the end of the day, there is no substitute for sheer talent, but Rock the Audition can be useful to understand the rules and have your ducks all in a row. The main focus here, as the title suggests, is working within the rock musical genre.
If you're buying this book to learn how to be the front person for a rock band, this isn't what you should be reading. But knowledge is power, and reading this will certainly
have you infinitely better-prepared for that next audition than if you hadn't read it.
