William C. Taylor is the founder of Fast Company, a longstanding business magazine (and the first name that comes up when you Google "fast company"), and an experienced businessman himself. He feels that there is a better, more dramatic way to cure the ills of private companies, and helays out his plan and ideas in this book.
Taylor investigates 25 companies, including the Girl Scouts, Interpol, IBM, Swatch, and many more to see what makes them run - and not run. All of these organizations, he realized, have answered the following questions:
- Do you see opportunities the competition doesn't see?
- Do you have new ideas about whee to look for new ideas?
- Are you the most of anything?
- Are you getting the best contributions from the most people?
By adopting his philosophy and worldview, companies can change in this era of recession and come out ahead. You're not going to read this if you're a very small company or simply self-employed. But if you're looking for ways to get out of the economic mire that your
organization might be stuck in, reading this book might not be a bad place to start.
