If you've ever bought an album by the prog-rock band Yes, you know Roger Dean's artwork. Dean is the masterful graphic artist who created the Yes logo, as well as designs for Budgie, Asia, Badger, and numerous other rock bands. He has also drawn artwork for video game consoles, stage sets, movie visuals, and architectural projects.
This is a reissue from 1984, which at that time was a follow-up to the 1975 release of
Views, a multi-colored book of Dean's earliest work.
Dean was born in Kent, England in 1941 and studied industrial design - of furniture at the Canterbury School of Art for three
years. He attended the Royal College of Art in London for several more years, and in 1975 he had his first art exhibition. Four years later, he became the director of Magnetic Storm, a design company he created with son Martyn
(whose work is also presented here) and Robert Fitzgerald.
This is a beautiful book depicting some of Dean's most famous graphics, including the the construction of the Asia logo, as well as artwork and live stage renderings of various Yes productions.
