Look Both Ways delves into bisexuality with an emphasis on the empowerment of women through their own choices (not through their acquiescence to their boyfriends’ lurid fantasies).
The examination of the cult phenomenon Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with its strong lesbian character Willow and Buffy’s kick-ass attitude, makes a good point that only by viewing women “out of the box” of society’s narrow constraints can women succeed.
Many people will be tempted to dismiss these ideas as whimsical at best; however, if they keep an open mind as they read Baumgardners book, they may realize the wisdom instead. Only, when people feel free to truly be themselves can progress be made in the fight (yes, it is still a fight) for all women’s rights as well as gay rights.
Baumgardner makes valid points without being overbearing and gives readers plenty to ponder. Champions of civil rights unite: buy Look Both Ways and add new ammunition to your arsenal in the fight for human – not just straight, gay, white, black, etc. - rights.
