Cat lovers rejoice, for the members of the Cat Fanciers’ Association have put together a comprehensive reference guide covering every aspect of cat selection, ownership and care. The Cat Fanciers’ Association Complete Cat Book (the official publication of the CFA) is a bible of all things feline, created and edited by a body of experts who know more than just a thing or two about the wonderful world of cats. In fact, when it comes to cats, nobody knows as much as the CFA, an international non-profit organization devoted to the welfare of pedigree cats, whether they are raised for show or for companionship.

Over sixty-nine million cats live and play in American homes, according to the CFA, and this book offers a plethora of knowledge, experience and insight from more than fifty CFA breeders, show judges, veterinarians and others who make cats their living and their life. Covering everything from the history of the CFA itself to the common parasitic diseases and all points in between, this heavy hardcover book is worth its weight in kitty litter for anyone who wants to know more about these aloof but lovable creatures.

Chapters cover topics such as what makes a pedigreed cat, the forty-one breed descriptions and their CFA show standards, choosing the right cat to own or show, identifying coat colors and patterns in domestic cats, understanding cat behavior (well, the basics, at least!), dealing with a new kitten, breeding cats, feeding and nutrition, and health care. The chapter on feline health care is a sort of home veterinary guide and is filled with information and tips on the most common ailments and diseases cats face, including some helpful info and resources for dealing with the grief of losing a beloved cat friend.

The many contributors, under the editing and guidance of prolific pet book author Mordecai Siegal, offer so much personal input into the various aspects of cat care and ownership that this book is like getting the consultation experience of dozens of books all in one volume. What makes the CFA such experts is their combined wisdom and knowledge, not to mention their combined years of dealing hands-on with the various breeds, and that expertise comes through on every page.

There are plenty of illustrations, great color photos of different breeds and color patterns, and tons of informative and in-depth sidebars on all the most essential topics, as well as a comprehensive glossary of terms used throughout the book.
