Eric Clapton has owned some of the most iconic guitars in rock 'n' roll history. His psychedelically-painted SG/Les Paul Standard and his famous cherry red ES-335 are known to every musician who ever strapped on a guitar.
In this remarkable signed limited edition, those guitars--and all of Slowhand's instruments--are meticulously detailed. Additionally, Clapton himself provides his own insights about the instruments: where they came from, what they mean to him, and how they make him play.
Six-String Stories is an absolute work of art. Limited to 2,000 copies, each volume comes in cherry red leather designed to match the very color of Eric's legendary Gibson 335. The blocking is gold and silver and the book is housed in a silk-screened buckram slipcase. Every one of the 376 pages is trimmed in gold, and each copy is personally signed by Clapton himself.
The guitars are presented in chronological order and begin with a Hoyer purchased when the guitarist was 13 years old and ending with Fender-designed custom signature Stratocasters.
Clapton writes in the intro: "One by one these guitars were chapters of my life. Some of the guitars were incredibly important, and they were the ones that probably did the best in the auctions (Clapton has sold the bulk of his instruments in auctions benefitting his rehab facility called
Crossroads) because they had known provenance to fans and collectors. I had to be fairly conscientious about everything that went into the sales in terms of whether or not they were really viable parts of my history. Every one of them got played a little bit, but some were really vital."
These are the most beautiful guitars--and amps--you've ever seen. Presented in this extraordinary volume, they make you realize just how exquisite they really are. You may not have had $42,000 to buy Clapton's
1983 Roger Giffin-built custom Stratocaster, but for £375 (roughly $750), you can
gaze at it in this glorious volume.
