Shoe Boxes Are for Shoes is a sort of simplified God Wants You to Be Rich written for the novice home-business operator from a CPA's point of view. A good number of today's wealth-building titles -- and purportedly wealth-building multi-level marketing schemes -- are inspirational in nature, along the "I'm-good-enough-I'm-smart-enough-and-doggoneit-I-like-me" lines. But Garland Creighton's guide to running a home-based business takes that big step over into overtly religious territory. Peppered with applicable scriptual quotes from both the NKJV and The Amplified Bible and illustrated with simple cartoons, this short but helpful book helps even the smallest out-of-home operator get into a more businesslike mental attitude.
From hints on "taking the plunge" and establishing an entity structure, to knowing how long you can tread water when your fledgling business hits lean times, to staying sane when responsibility for both your income and your business sits squarely on your own shoulders, Shoe Boxes Are for Shoes offers useful advice. Creighton appends the book with a short, plain dictionary of accounting terms that helps take some of the mystery out of the language of business for the beginner. Never does the book get too into the technical guts of setting up your business; go elsewhere for step-by-step information. But for the very Christian man or woman hoping to make a go of things based out of their own home, this little book might just be the extra push they need to jump out of the nest -- and, with their faith bolstering them, to fly high.
