For years, photographer Robert M. Knight has been shooting the crème de la crème of rock musicians: Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Humble Pie, Van Halen, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Green Day, and many others. Here, finally, some of his most remarkable
shots are gathered together in a stunning display of photographic artistry and skill.
What makes these images so compelling is Knight's personal relationships with the players behind the shots. He has been on a first-name basis with Beck, Slash,
and Hendrix (while still alive, of course) for years. That chemistry, that connection, is illuminated in the photo.
There are timeless moments here: Led Zeppelin on the tarmac holding the tapes for their second album (it's also one of Robert's favorites); vintage shots of Steve Marriott from Humble Pie; and transcendent pictures of Jimi Hendrix from 1968. There are full-color and black-and-white plates, and just when you think you've been blown totally away by astounding shots of Aerosmith and Slash, you come upon the R&B section that includes photos of Humbert Sumlin, Buddy Guy, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, and many others.
Knight is truly an original, and his Rock Gods portfolio provides more than enough evidence that he inhabits a plane all his own.
