As the title of this book indicates, it is concerned with the four gospels and Jesus Christ. This dictionary discusses many topics that are connected to the gospels, topics like the temple, Josephus, prayer, taxes, and many others. Many international scholars of various denominations have been gathered to put together this excellent dictionary, making it a great reference for the study of the gospels.
This large volume is set out in the traditional A-to-Z format, prefaced with a how-to-use section and lists of abbreviations and contributors. The articles vary in length, with most being extensive. Each has a short introduction followed by an outline. There are see-also references in the body of the articles and at the end of the articles, as well as a bibliography at the end of each article.
The books, journals, and Internet sites are mainly in English. The Internet sites are probably out of date by now. Three indices at the end of the book - a gospel reference index, a subject index, and an article index – still help make this dictionary a good reference tool for those studying the gospels on their own or in a class.
