Crazy Horse: A Life sheds light on the oft-maligned character of a man who should be remembered as a hero not as a savage. Much remains unknown about Crazy Horse because of his very private nature. However, McMurtry has done a masterful job of putting some flesh on the bones of the legendary warrior.
The truth is unfortunately no surprise to true students of history. Even the great Crazy Horse fell victim to the lies of the white man (which should fill those of us who are descended from them with shame) and died a scant four months after having surrendered in good faith. For those who admire the indomitable spirit of the great man, it was a blessing that when he died he gained the freedom which had been stripped from him.
Crazy Horse is the compelling story of a fascinating man skillfully told by a talented writer. For those who love history and love the truth even more.
