Kerrelyn Sparks has written eight books in the Love at Stake, series and I've read all of them. That was perhaps a slight disadvantage when starting this book: it felt like yet another variant of the same story. Many of the heroes and heroines of previous books also appear in this one, and it became clear that I was unable to distinguish who is whom and which story relates to which couple - they had all merged into a big muddle of vampire stories. I have little doubt that this one will join that muddle; there wasn't much in it to make it stand out.
What
is slightly different was the setting - the island of Patmos in Greece - and I particularly enjoyed the parts of the book set there.
Vampire Robby MacKay is on Patmos for some time alone to try to get over his kidnapping and torture by the Malcontents. When he meets Olivia Sotiris, he falls for her instantly. Olivia
must leave Patmos in a hurry when her stalker contacts her, but she can't forget Robby. Can Robby and Olivia build a life together, and can they discover the identity of the person who is helping Olivia's stalker?
This is a quick read and good for a lazy day on the beach. It rather lacks in depth - in fact, the first book in the series is the only one that
really looked into its characters' feelings and emotions - but as long as you don't get too confused by all the vampire couples and aren't too irritated by the recurring themes in this series, it's an
okay read.
