Sometimes the best kind of books are the “pass around” kind – those books that are just so damned deliciously funny and scathing that you have to pass them around to every friend you have.
Undateable is one of those books, although I suspect more women than men will be passing it around. And that is unfortunate, too, because the kinds of men featured in this hilarious book are the very ones who need to read it. Chock full of ways that men turn women off, this book will almost turn you off entirely to the male species, until you realize that there are good ones out there who aren’t full to the brim with deal-breakers. Yeah, guys - I admit, women have deal-breakers too, but for now this is the book we are talking about, and I passed it around to everyone I know!
From the things guys do, say, wear, drive and everything in between, the authors - both of whom are gorgeous and successful women, mind you - present a colorful array of glamour don’ts from wearing crocs to man-boobs to shaved head patterns to murses (man purses) to carrying a boom box (so outdated!) to “Cosby sweaters” to taking Beano in public… I could go on and on. The authors have thought of things that make women cringe, categorized for your viewing pleasure into what not to wear, what not to say, what not to do, what not to be, and of course, why a man should never be an entire category unto himself – as in, “Anal Andy” or “Mega Douche.”
The end of the book even provides a whole list of real guys talking about things they think guys should never do, possibly the most insightful list of all.
This is a laugh-out-loud book that will get a lot of wear and tear. It also has the value of pointing out some real “realities” to both men and women. Men, take a look-see and understand why we cringe. Women, take a look see and, well, laugh until you cry, then go out there and find the good guys. They are out there in droves. They just don’t make fun subject matter for a book - unless they are secretly hiding their man-boobs.
Loved it.
