Classic rock drummer and icon Carmine Appice is as famous for what he's done
away from a drumkit as he is for what he's done on one. Amongst the
highlights of his life, Carmine has
- Hung out with Jimi Hendrix.
- Shared an apartment with Prince.
- Been involved in the mud shark incident (arguably the most notorious and
oft-told groupie story of all time).
- Jammed with John McEnroe and Steven Seagal.
- Played with and got fired by Ozzy.
- Played with and got fired by Rod Stewart.
- Played with Jeff Beck.
- Slept with 4,500 women.
- Been married five times.
It sounds impossible (or at least highly exaggerated), but it's all true and
all written down here in Appice's autobiography. It is a fun, inside look at
the salacious and excessive world or rock 'n' roll. The drummer takes us all
the way from his time running the mean streets of Brooklyn to forming
Vanilla Fudge. He talks about playing with Ozzy Osbourne and Rod Stewart and
what it was like to live his dreams as the drummer in Beck, Bogert & Appice.
There is too much to talk about in this short review. If you want to know
what it was like rising from anonymity to being in one of the biggest bands
in the world, then you have to read this. And even if you don't want to
believe it, you will.
