The McCloud brothers are at it again with another installment in their dangerous world of undercover operations, damsels in distress, angry mafia men out for revenge and blood, and
(of course) the revelation of love in the face of traumatic circumstances. In Extreme Danger, it is Nick Ward
in danger of the extreme sort threatening not only his life but also that of Becca Cattrell, the unfortunate weekend neighbor of the gangster Zhoglo, who chooses the wrong time and place to go for a skinny dip in her neighbor’s pool.
Nick has been trying to take Zhoglo down for years, but the mission becomes personal the night he
finds his partner sliced from groin to neck with all his organs pulled out, still gasping his last breaths. The worst part: his partner’s young daughter, Sveti, has been kidnapped by Zhoglo,
and Nick promises her mother that he will find her. The set-up for Zhoglo is perfect: location, prep time, proximity to Zhoglo to find Sveti. To
take Zhoglo down, all Nick needs is patience, and he will finally get his revenge.
But Becca blusters onto the scene and Nick can't stand by and watch her get gang-raped repeatedly, turned over to Zhoglo for his own personal enjoyment, then murdered for being where she was. Using finesse
and quick thinking, drawing on all the inner strength both Nick and Becca possess, they manage to
make it through the situation until the opportunity for escape arises.
On the run and in need of friends, answers and resources, in intolerable need to get their lives established as far from reality as possible, Nick and Becca enter the tornado of revelations that bring their separate lives crashing together. There is no escaping the monstrous stretch of Zhoglo or the gruesome revenge he has
in mind for them. Sveti is in his hands, and Nick needs desperately to save her.
He also finds that Becca is the first woman in his world who he has ever truly needed. How can he protect and love her when his death is imminent at
Zhoglo's hands? How can he save Sveti while he's trying to protect Becca from her
refusal to grasp the gravity of the situation and her ongoing insistence on
living her life like there is no Zhoglo after her?
The McCloud brothers and the sultry Tamara step up to help Nick when news
surfaces of Zhoglo’s black-market organ business. The who, where, what and when are finally discovered, but so is one nasty piece of information that leaves Nick cold and Becca alone to fight on her own. Betrayal left a bitter taste in Nick’s mouth when he saw his partner dying; there's no way he'll allow himself to ever be victim to it again. Hopefully his instincts won’t steer him wrong this time.
This is one of the better "McCloud Brothers" books, but in truth, they are all great. Shannon McKenna is at the top of her game
writing these completely masculine males with a hidden soft spot to perfection. The best part of McKenna’s novels is that while the romance and hot, spicy sexual intrigue are truly tantalizing to any woman with a pulse, the story’s plot is a great read and keeps the page-turning a non-stop phenomenon all through the night. I hope there are many more McCloud Brothers books to look forward to
- the characters are a phenomenal hit and a pleasure to read.
