Robert E. Lee: A Life is a unique and often humorous look at the life of a major player in the Civil War who has long been enshrouded in mystery, perhaps because he was a symbol of the losing - and morally questionable - Confederate side.

Blount brings Robert E. Lee out from the mists of time and does something no other biographer has done: makes him a living, breathing person with interesting tidbits such as the fact that General Lee wore a size 4 C shoe, and that he was the object of the unrequited homosexual infatuation of many of the men who knew him.

Trivia aside, Robert E. Lee: A Life is a must-read for anyone fascinated by Civil War history. Regardless of whether you find his politics offensive, readers must admit that General Lee was an interesting individual and that this biography is a great read.
