They are probably one of the most popular bands around that no one has ever heard of. Primarily a band that appeared as part of the jam scene, Phish have been around for nearly 20 years and hold the same sort of attraction for their fans
that the Grateful Dead did in their day.
Author
Parke Puterbaugh has conducted a lot of research and undertaken numerous interviews with group members, including guitarist Trey Anastasio who talks briefly about his public arrest. Each album is examined and dissected, and the band's live shows are inspected.
If there is any complaint to be made here, it's that the author is a bit too awed by his subject. He obviously loves the band, and that's fine
- but in the personal interviews with musicians, he comes across more as
sycophant than a professional journalist. Still, if you're a Phish fan, this book has a lot to recommend it.
