Retired British Major General Peter Reid covers a subject and period not delved into much by other books
of military history: England’s methods of warfare from 1314 to 1485.
During this time, the English learned from their mistakes and developed methods of warfare to defeat much larger French armies. The major weapon that made the English dominant for a long time was the longbow; the French seemed only to slowly learn how to fight the English. While Reid tells the history of the wars and battles, he also discusses technical aspects of weapons and other items. As the reader learn about these wars and battles, he or she will learn too about the history of the English and French during this period.
A Brief History of Medieval Warfare is highly recommended to those interested in medieval history.
