Author Tom Brooks is a working musician, producer, engineer and arranger connected with the highly-respected "Hosanna Music Praise and Worship" series presented by Integrity Music. He has also produced in excess of 100 Christian-based albums that have variously garnered gold and platinum status as well as receiving Grammy and Dove Awards. Bottom line: the man knows what he's talking about.

And what he's talking about--writing about--here is what every worship musician needs to know to work in this particularly demanding field. Because Brooks so well understands his material, he's able to lay it out concisely, simply and informatively. He covers a litany of essential concepts including scales, key signatures, how to read charts, transpositions, chord constructions and how they relate to one another, and much more.

The music covered is contemporary praise and is basically what you'd learn in any college-level theory class. If anything gets past you while studying the text, the accompany DVD-ROM will answer any questions you may have. It contains 11 distinct chapters on everything from The Basic Building Blocks of Music, Pitch and Foundational Structures, and Time Signatures to Chord Relationships Beyond the Basics, The Next Level and Harmony: Outside the Box--Altered Chords.

If you are a musician working in the worship music field, you need to read this.
