All her life, Liza Donovan has been plagued by vivid dreams of the sea. A Wisconsin native who has never been to the ocean, Liza knows more about the Nantucket Whaling Industry than seems plausible. Are her visions simply fabrications of her subconscious, or memories of a past life? When her college roommate, Jane Bryant, suggests a summer at her Aunt Kitty’s home on Nantucket Island, Liza begins a search for the truth.

Aunt Kitty’s historic home is that of whaling captain Obadiah Young, suspected of murdering his frail wife there on the stairs. The energy of the house plays heavily upon Liza’s dreams, and soon visions from the past begin to surface. While Liza becomes immersed in an historical tangle of love and deceit, her own love life begins to unravel. Deeply attracted to museum curator Adam Gallagher, museum curator, Liza finds herself longing for the intense sexual fire she has experienced through Obadiah’s passions. Enter Lucien Theriault, Kitty’s spoiled godson, who keeps Liza at arm’s length despite the obvious sparks. Can Liza solve a two-hundred-year-old mystery, bridge the barrier of time, and find her own emotional happiness in one short summer?

In The Boundless Deep, author Kate Brallier successfully blends historic fact and contemporary realism in one outstanding read. Filled with mystery, romance and a touch of the paranormal, this tale will appeal to wide audiences. Be forewarned: there are some graphic sex scenes included. Not thrown in for cheap thrills, they are an essential element of the plot and help the reader identify with the emotionally driven characters. Grab your towel and sunscreen; this one should be enjoyed with your toes in the sand.
