Bestselling author Joyce Meyer provides a venue for self-discovery, personal enrichment and healthy living in Look Great, Feel Great: 12 Keys to Enjoying a Healthy Life Now. The author’s practical writing style, combined with her personal experiences encountered along life’s roads, engages the reader. At sixty-three years old, Meyer was motivated to author the book because she feels better spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally then ever in her life.

The author’s vigor for life is evident to the reader, as the book has an upbeat and optimistic tone. Meyer inspires the reader to take the necessary steps to achieve a healthy life. The book begins with the author’s account of her struggle to achieve optimal health. By the end of reading her story, the reader can’t help but think, if Joyce can achieve healthy living, then I can do it. Matter of fact, after reading this chapter in the book, I bought a brand new pair of running sneakers.

Look Great, Feel Great is organized into 12 key plans (i.e. 12 chapters) to achieve a healthy life now. In each chapter, a key action is provided to look great and feel great, as well as five built-in practical suggestions to incorporate in your life. Each chapter ends with “Taking Action,” which calls the reader to identify how to implement the key step and take action. From the author’s perspective, grounded in her faith, let God do the heavy lifting for you; use your faith as an instrument to heal, love yourself and support you in the endeavor of achieving optimal health. Therefore, the book incorporates spiritual enrichment lessons.

The book presents sample methods to get healthy: exercise, drink more water, sleep well, balanced eating and mindful eating (the act of being present when you eat and drink). Have a vision of your goal; know where you want to get, and then you can determine how you will get there. The advice in the book called Make It Easy stands out; take small steps toward healthy living, celebrate your victories, laugh at the missteps and reward yourself.

I loved the author’s comment “There is no drive-thru to good health.” How many times in life do we want immediate results? The reader finds out in this book that the greater investment in his/her health, the higher the rewards. My only caution is to take time to read this book; there is a lot of information to digest. You may need to absorb one chapter at a time, implement an action, and move on to the next chapter since the book is so packed with helpful hints and tips. Look Great, Feel Great offers something for everyone given the universal topic: wisdom for people of all ages and disciplines.
