Her Sexiest Mistake by Jill Shalvis sweeps you along as the hectic, non-stop drama of the characters’ lives unfolds. From the opening scene until the very last page, Shalvis has penned a fast-paced story filled with humor and a myriad of very real emotions that will entertain and delight readers.

Mia Appleby has it all. A successful Los Angeles advertising executive, she lives the life of glamour to the fullest. From her designer clothing and shoes to her beautiful home, Mia has shaped her own destiny through her hard work, planning, and perseverance. Sharp, cool and sophisticated, she’s come a long way from the trailer park in Tennessee where she grew up, and she’s done her very best to forget her past.

When she wakes up in bed after a night of hot sex with her new neighbor, Kevin McNight, Mia knows she’s made a mistake. She believes there’s nothing wrong with mutually satisfying sex between two consenting adults, but she’s definitely not looking for any kind of commitment. She knows she should have stayed away from her new neighbor, but how could she resist? In his battered jeans and boots astride his motorcycle, Kevin epitomises the bad-boy, sexy male that she just can’t resist. But even beyond his looks, she sees the sweet, dependable man beneath the exterior. And he scares her to death.

Kevin McNight has moved back to his old neighborhood to try and make some kind of a life for himself and his adult handicapped brother, Mike. Kevin is a fixer who spends most of his time trying to keep Mike out of trouble and teach summer school science to uninterested teens, all while trying to keep the local teen center open. His life is simple but fairly uncomplicated - that is, until he spends the night with his sexy new neighbor, Mia Appleby.

When Mia awakens in Kevin’s bed the morning after, she panics and runs from him. Instead of the few hours of oblivion that she wanted, he’s making her feel and think about things, and from her perspective, that’s not good. But Mia is really running from herself as much as she is running from Kevin. He is not willing to let her go quite so easily, and she finds herself drawn back to him time and again, in spite of her determination to stay away.

When Mia’s sixteen-year-old runaway niece shows up on her doorstep, the past arrives with her, and Mia’s well-ordered life begins to unravel. What once seemed like the perfect life is now totally out of control as she tries to deal with a teenager and her unwanted attraction to her neighbor. Even work, which has always been her joy, has become a battleground as an unknown co-worker threatens to sabotage the career she’s worked so hard for.

Her Sexiest Mistake is a story about a woman forced to examine the life she has built for herself, and the only way she can do that is by delving back into her past to discover why she is the way she is. Mia values control, and when her life spirals out of control, she begins to see what her life is really like.

The dialogue is sharp and witty and Mia is likeable, in spite of the fact that she constantly has sex with Kevin rather than dealing with her problems. Kevin is a wonderful man, but at times you want to shake him for the way he lets the people he loves take advantage of him. But that just means that the characters are very real people, with their own hang-ups and problems. Filled with wonderful secondary characters and subplots, Her Sexiest Mistake is a fun read and is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
