God, Are You Serious? traces the circuitous and painful journey of Kay Jemison, a woman who has lived through horrors and come through stronger and able to inspire others. Brutally honest - even in the face of making herself look bad - Jemison’s story alternately sickens (someone actually put her puppy in the freezer) and inspires simply by her still being alive, as well as advises people to not make her mistakes.
This sometimes nauseating read is ultimately worth it: we can all learn from the bedraggled assortment of cohorts and villains that parade through the pages of this brave woman’s life story.
Anyone who has survived being around people who have been jailed for murder and another who became schizophrenic deserves a badge of courage, particularly since she came out of it still standing. Her journey back to God can give hope to any reader.
