Written with clarity and purpose, these pages offer readers a solid introduction to the principles of chi self-massage. Although the author emphatically explains that this book is meant to supplement personal training by a Universal Tao instructor, the descriptions of these practices are detailed enough to provide a firm foundation for anyone looking to explore this subject.

Beginning with a thorough definition of the concept of chi, or the internal body energy, Master Mantak Chia systematically leads readers to the resulting practices of channeling this force to enhance health and vitality. Basically, this self-massage works by clearing blockages from the energy channels, or meridians, to the various organs and senses. These techniques direct the flow of chi to specific areas, which results in increased energy, rejuvenation of vital organs, and a positive emotional outlook.

Mantak Chia is to be commended for presenting this material in such an understandable format. His logical progression of ideas allows readers to quickly grasp this new information and to build upon it as the pages turn. Detailed drawings accompany the text, adding a very important visual interpretation of the practices. The concepts all involve sound reasoning, which has been employed by Taoists for thousands of years. For such a short book, the overall explanation of this system is explicit, providing a most impressive view of these techniques. Yet, even though a lot of information is included, the author has developed a complete daily routine that only takes 5 to 10 minutes a day.

Chi Self-Massage presents a wealth of information that can positively impact the health of readers.
