It is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, the three-day festival held in upstate New York, a gathering that would forever change the scope of rock music.
Author Pete Fornatale gathers together quotes from many of the concert's principals
- everyone from Paul Butterfield, Grace Slick, and Alvin Lee to Michael Lang (executive producer), Chip Monck (lighting director), and Joel Rosenman (one of the moneymen).
Fornatale
lays the book out chronologically with main chapters titled Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday, and in each the various bands/artists who played on those specific days are interviewed. Fornatale is not much of a writer, but he has managed to gather some terrific information,
including some great quotes from Max Yasgur (the man on whose farmland the concert was held) and Michael Wadleigh, the filmmaker who shot the Academy Award-winning documentary.
If you're a maniac for another book on Woodstock, this one is worth reading.
